This continuing education activity is designed to provide evidence-based education in endodontics. The course content is independent, scientifically grounded, and does not promote any specific commercial products or services.
 

Course Description

This continuing dental education program provides participants with didactic instruction and hands-on training in contemporary endodontic principles. Emphasis is placed on diagnosis, treatment planning, clinical execution, complication prevention, and restoration of endodontically treated teeth. The course is designed to enhance clinical decision-making, technical skills, and patient safety in general dental practice.

Educational Objectives (Learning Outcomes)

Upon completion of this continuing education activity, participants should be able to:

1. Apply accepted diagnostic principles to differentiate pulpal, periapical, and non-odontogenic sources of facial pain.

2. Perform comprehensive case evaluations using vitality testing and appropriate radiographic imaging and interpretation.

3. Incorporate periodontal and restorative considerations into endodontic treatment planning.

4. Evaluate case difficulty and determine when referral to an endodontic specialist is indicated, including appropriate referral protocols.

5. Assess prognosis for endodontic cases based on clinical and radiographic findings.

6. Manage endodontic pain and infection using appropriate pharmacologic strategies, including antibiotics, analgesics, steroids, and local anesthetics, consistent with current guidelines.

7. Diagnose and manage acute irreversible pulpitis (“hot tooth”) using predictable clinical techniques.

8. Identify common etiologic factors contributing to root canal treatment failure and implement preventive measures.

9. Apply effective isolation techniques, including rubber dam placement, to improve treatment outcomes.

10. Perform conservative and accurate access cavity preparation and locate root canal systems.

11. Establish and maintain a reproducible glide path.

12. Compare nickel-titanium rotary and reciprocating instrumentation systems and select appropriate systems based on clinical indications.

13. Determine accurate working length using electronic apex locator technology.

14. Perform effective cleaning, shaping, and disinfection of the root canal system using safe and evidence-based techniques.

15. Demonstrate obturation techniques, including single-cone and warm vertical compaction methods.

16. Recognize, prevent, and manage procedural errors and complications, including strategies to reduce the risk of instrument separation.

17. Diagnose and manage cracked tooth syndrome.

18. Understand the properties and clinical applications of bioceramic materials, including MTA and bioceramic sealers.

19. Select appropriate temporization materials and techniques following endodontic treatment.

20. Maintain accurate clinical records and obtain informed consent in accordance with regulatory standards.

21. Restore endodontically treated teeth with durable post and core foundations (Day 3 focus).

 

CE Credit Statement 

This program is designated for 21 CE hours of Continuing Dental Education (CDE).
